Oh Aputsiaq- this is beautiful. I love the scandinavian houses in the background and have never seen a picture of someone washing their clothes this way- that must seriously hurt the hands! I'm off to go and investigate the artist....
Hello, I just found your blog yesterday through Liivian talossa and I've been enjoying it very much. By the way, the clothes were not actually washed this way, they were usually rinsed and mostly only bed linen or other "heavy" material. I haven't done it myself and haven't even seen anyone do it either (too young for that!) but read about it in Finnish history. Anyway, it must've hurt one's hands even if it was "just rinsing".
