Arnaqquassaaq - Sedna

This is my latest piece of needle felting.
It is Arnaqquassaaq - 'the very old woman'
- or The Mother of the Sea. She's quite tall...
about 27 cm/11 inch....and she took me almost
a day to make. Maybe she's not finnished yet.... ;O)

Arnaqquassaaq is a very significant figure in Inuit
mythology: She lives in the sea and takes care of
the marine animals. She sends them 'up' to the inuit
hunters (...if humans behave well), so they can catch
them and feed their families.

If you want to know more then click here...
and read the myth of Arnaqquassaaq as well
