
The hippopotamus was a symbol of rebirth in ancient Egypt,
and ceramic figures of the hippopotamus were found in Egyptian
tombs. They were painted bright blue, as if under water, and often
decorated with images of water plants, birds and butterflies.

Did you know that the Egyptians had a very direct relationship with the hippos but did not know they were a symbol of rebirth for them. Very interesting and very beautiful representation of it.
As far as I know the hippo was a god of birth and rebirth...but of course it varies over time...
