Josabeth Sjöberg was born in to a wealthy Swedish home;
her father was a clerk in a government department
and her mother spent her days reading romantic novels,
and Josabeth was educated in pinano and guitar-playing.
As an adult, she became poor after the death of her parents,
and supported herself as a governess and a music teacher
in the private homes of the upper-classes in Stockholm.

She was a natural talent who painted during her free
time. She portrayed the every day life of the Bourgeoisie
and the life in Victorian Stockholm in watercolour painting
