'The Kelpie', n.d. by John Duncan
link
The kelpie is a supernatural water horse from
Celtic folklore that is believed to haunt the
rivers and lochs of Scotland and Ireland
The horse's appearance is strong, powerful, and breathtaking.
Its hide was supposed to be black (though in some stories it was white),
and will appear to be a lost pony, but can be identified by its constantly
dripping mane. Its skin is like that of a seal, smooth but is as cold
as death when touched. Water horses are known to transform into
beautiful women to lure men into their traps

Very beautiful selection, i like specially the Iku Dekune painting.
The Ikun Dekune artwork IS wonderfuuul...and the John Duncan one!!
dear mette,
love these creatures as well as the selkies, mythological seals that shed their skin to become humans. excellant group of kelpies to study further.
Hi Marilyn, I also like the thought of mythical creature in this world of ours...they must be out there somewhere!
What a beautiful story of folklore, both history and the illustrations are beautiful. Very interesting.
You are right; the Kelpie is an amazing creature..one shall aways be aware of beautiful woman...and horses ;O)
