'In the Lion's Den', cartoon by John Fergus O'Hea
from the Weekly Freeman, 23 July 1887
'Erin has been dragged into the Tory Den, but happily
there is an "ardent admirer" not far off'
Based on the painting below - The Lion's Bride - Erin
[Ireland] lies on the floor of a lion's cage as the 'Tory
lion prepares to devour her. She holds in her right
hand a crown or collar with the words [Irish] 'Home
Rule' written on it. Gladstone stands outside the cage
holding a rifle with the word 'Democracy' written on it

Thanks for your comment! What a treasure...and what a fantastic history behind your painting! Well, I don't know what museum actually owns the painting...I think I would contact The New York Public Library (who owns the last image shown) and ask them...maybe they know.
Happy New Year from Mette
I have the painting shown as the second one posted here by again so much greater and more detailed. The painting is signed The lion's Bride on the original bronze name plate. The artist who signed this painting is G. W. Reltsif' and I am trying to find out if anyone can give me any information about this artist or History?
