Gorgeous garnets...

Victorian 14kt gold Bohemian garnet
hanging earrings, ca. 1880

Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th
century. During this time, garnets were one of the
most popular types of stones used in jewelry production.
The garnets were often placed close together in an effort
to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than
when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian
garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made
of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is
sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'
