Yesterday I drove past 'Dannerhuset' and saw that it
looked almost like a new building - a long period of
restoration is almost finished. Great!
Dannehuset is a place for women only - men are not
allowed inside. It is is a private humanitarian organization
that helps over 1,000 women and children annually who
are exposed to domestic violence to secure a safer life and
future without violence. Dannerhuset is also a research
center that documents violence against women and children
and creates awareness about gender equality

Women of my generation grew up with Dannerhuset -
I've known about it since I was a young girl...but it is
much older than me: it was built in 1873 as a house for
'underprivileged women of the working class' founded
by Louise Christine Rasmussen, also known as Countess
Danner (1815-73). Danner was a ballet dancer and stage
actor. She was the mistress and later the morganatic
spouse of King Frederick VII of Denmark. She was not
a Queen consort, but officially styled Countess Danner
