Set in Norway and Iceland at the beginning of the 11th
century, 'Gunnar's Daughter' tells the story of a beautiful,
spoiled young woman who, after being raped by the man
she had wanted to love, raises the child conceived in violence.
Alone she rebuilds her life and restores her family's honor-
until an unremitting social code propels her to take the
action that again destroys her happiness

I learned a great deal from this bio. The photographs are treasures; she was so beautiful. I remember when my mother read this and wonder if you have read the trilogy. If so, did you read all the books and would you recommend one over the others?

She was an amazing woman - although her life was not so easy. But Marilyn I'm sorry I've only read parts of the trilogy....so I'm not the best person to ask...at the moment i have A LOT of beautiful books I just HAVE to read...and one day takes the next...and I never come to read them...sigh...

Thanks for showing alll this truly lovely images of my fellow countrywoman Sigrid Undset.
I'm impressed, well, she is a woman I definetely wouldn't call beautiful, choosing the pictures I'm sure you stumbled over lots of rather hard and grim expressions.:-)
I liek your blog, very nicely presented. I love snow too!

Have a lovey week.

Greetings
Dina

Hej...dejligt at du kiggede forbi...tak! She was wonderful I think - as a young girl and as an older woman. I remember that when I found the images I thought about that she seldom smiled...and especially getting older one could see "a life hard life pictured in her face"...De bedste hilsener herfra Danmark!
