...and Odin had two wolves...

Odin with his wolves Geri and Freki - and
his ravens Huginn and Muninn by
Lorenz Frølich (1820-1908)

In Norse mythology, Geri and Freki are two wolves
which are said to accompany the god Odin. The names Geri
and Freki have been interpreted as meaning either 'the greedy
one' or 'the ravenous one' - whenever Odin was given anything to
eat he gave it to the wolves instead of eating it himself - Odin
only drank wine at his dinner - 'wine is to him both meat
and drink'. Geri and Freki are also said to be
'greedy for the corpses of those
who have fallen in battle'
