In Norse mythology, a half-elf is the offspring of an
elf and a human. Notable examples include the Danish
princess Skuld of Hrólf Kraki's saga, and the hero Högni of
the Thidrekssaga (his mother was a human queen), and
the royal line of Alfheim, which was related to the elves
and more beautiful than other people

a boat and a castle. It is an illustration to the Icelandic legend
of Katla's dream (Kötludraumur), 1864. Kötludraumur' is a
poem about a married woman who has a baby with an elfin
man (hulduma
ður) and how she finds a solution for her
predicament of having a child out of wedlock

I wrote a story about how we "humans" are of a fallen Elven clan. Once upon a time, a trickster demon tricked an Elf clan into eating meat. They did and then they lost their Elf blood and took on the warm, red blood of beasts (Elves have clear, cold, sap-like blood) -- but without gaining protective, warm fur or feathers! And of course, that was a double curse, because we then had to start killing -- animals for their pelts and tree-folk to burn -- to keep warm in the winter. But the third part of the curse was the worst: We still have dim memories of and longings for our Elven past. Alas. . . .

If you would like more stories, go to hercynia.net/texts/Hercynia.pdf (capital H) and hercynia.net/texts/Marenmark.pdf (capital M). The first is collected short stories, the second, a novel. Publishers aren't showing any interest, so they're free. Marenmark is set in an other-century coastal Scandi/Germanic parallel universe. I'm sure you'll like them.
