Richard Gerstl (1883-1908):
'Smaragda Berg', 1906

Smaragda Berg was the sister of the Austrain
composer Alban Berg (1885-1935). She very gifted pianist
and chamber musician herself; and Smaragda Berg had practiced
the piano with Alban and her sisters since early childhood.
She was once married but she broke out her marriage
because she was lesbian - it must have been
a very hard thing to do in the early 1900s!
